The Power of Purpose Fighting for Freedom, Business, and Humanity

In this episode of Be the Giraffe, I sit down with Jason Sisneros — a man who’s not only built and exited 26 companies, but also built himself from the ground up after a childhood marked by abuse, trauma, and survival.
Jason’s story isn’t just about business growth. It’s about redemption, responsibility, and the relentless pursuit of freedom — the kind that money can’t buy.
He’s helped over 60 entrepreneurs design their dream exits through his company, Built to Exit, and is now launching The Owner’s Syndicate — a movement to protect and empower small and mid-sized business owners who, as he says, “keep this country running but have no one standing up for them.”
From Surviving to Serving
Jason’s path wasn’t paved with privilege. He grew up in an abusive home, started running drugs at 12, and by 19, was staring at death after being stabbed in the chest. That moment changed everything.
He made a promise — that his son would never see the same violence or chaos he did. He left the streets, took a $5.50-an-hour job peeling logs, and began the long climb toward a life of integrity, ownership, and impact.
Along the way, a pastor handed him two books — the Bible and Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins — and Jason realized something that would define his life:
“It’s in your moments of decision where your destiny is shaped.”
That’s when he stopped blaming the world and started building his own.
Freedom Has a Number
For Jason, financial freedom isn’t about luxury — it’s about legacy.
It’s about ensuring that if something happens to you, your family and team are still taken care of.
“Every entrepreneur is looking for one thing — freedom. But freedom comes with a number. And if you don’t know that number, you’re not even in the arena.”
That’s the mission behind Built to Exit — helping business owners systematize, scale, and sell their companies on their terms.
And now, through The Owner’s Syndicate, he’s taking that mission further — creating representation and protection for entrepreneurs who make up 60% of the U.S. GDP but are too busy working to fight for themselves.
Stay Dangerous
One of my favorite moments in our conversation came when Jason shared a lesson from his friend Pastor Rudy, who runs CERT Ministries — an organization that rescues children from sex trafficking.
Rudy once told him:
“Don’t tell me to be careful. Tell me to stay dangerous.”
That line hit me hard. Because that’s what we, as entrepreneurs, are called to do — to stay dangerous to fear, to doubt, to complacency.
Jason’s life is living proof that no matter how dark your past or how daunting your demons, you can build a business — and a life — that serves something greater than yourself.
